Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.
How many professional athletes can we watch self destruct? It is not hard to see a pattern where pro athletes gain fame and money, but then surround themselves with people who are not really their friends. Many end up broke or in jail or both. What they lack are true friends who keep them grounded in reality.
This verse reminds us that those who love us the most will wound us. They will be the ones who hurt our pride. They will be the ones who tell us “no”. They will tell us when we are being selfish and childish. It isn’t easy to do these things, but they will do it because they love us.
Be a trustworthy friend who speaks the truth in a loving way. Value those around you who do the same with you.
